5 signs your computer has a virus

Not every slow computer has a virus — but these signs are worth taking seriously.

1. Popups that won't stop

Ads or warning messages appearing even when your browser is closed usually means something's been installed without your knowledge.

2. Your browser has changed on its own

A new homepage, unfamiliar toolbar, or search engine you didn't choose is a classic sign of browser hijacking.

3. Everything suddenly runs slowly

Malware often runs in the background, eating up resources your computer needs for everything else.

4. Programs opening or closing by themselves

If things are happening on your screen without you touching anything, stop using the device and get it checked.

5. Friends receiving strange messages "from you"

This usually means an account has been compromised, not necessarily the device itself — but it's worth a check either way.

What to do

Stop using the device for anything sensitive (banking, email) until it's checked. Bring it to us or book a remote session — we'll find out exactly what's going on and clear it properly.
